I set the firm up for a simple reason: after twenty years in financial services, I'd grown tired of watching good people get treated as numbers, sold products that suited targets rather than them, and spoken to in jargon that kept them at arm's length. I knew advice could be done better, so I built a firm to do exactly that.
Candour is the whole point of Candor Rubra. It isn't a word I chose to sound clever, it's how I work. You'll get straight, honest advice, in plain language, with nothing hidden and nothing sold to you that you don't need.
ExperienceTwenty Years, and Every Kind of Market
Since 2005 I've advised clients through the 2008 financial crisis, Brexit, the COVID crash and the inflation shock that followed. Markets have risen and fallen and risen again, and through all of it the value of a steady hand and honest advice has never changed. That kind of experience can't be shortcut, and it's what I bring when the decisions matter most.
How I Got Here
I studied Economics at the University of Manchester and was drawn to financial advice from early on. What kept me in it, and what still drives me now, is the part that has nothing to do with spreadsheets: helping real people make sense of their money and feel genuinely in control of their future.
Over the years I've advised across the full picture, from mortgages and protection to pensions, investments and estate planning. I'm a qualified Pension Transfer Specialist and hold the Diploma in Financial Planning alongside mortgage and equity release qualifications, so I can look at how every part of your finances fits together rather than just one piece in isolation. I'm also a member of the Personal Finance Society, and I renew my Statement of Professional Standing every year, which means keeping my knowledge current and holding myself to the profession's highest standards of ethics and ongoing development.

I work best with business owners and directors, people approaching or already in retirement, and those thinking carefully about protecting their estate and passing on a legacy. Often they come to me at a crossroads, with a decision that feels too big or too complicated to get wrong, whether that's how to draw a pension, how to structure things tax-efficiently, or how to make sure what they've built ends up with the people they love.

I'm based in South West London, close to the clients and community I serve. Outside of work you'll usually find me running, keeping fit, or cooking, and most mornings walking our dog around Clapham Common or Battersea Park. I'm a firm believer that the best financial advice comes from someone who understands real life, because that's exactly where all of this matters most.
